Using Facebook To Find A Job

Facebook is not just about being social these days. With millions of users, this social networking site is often used as a powerful job search tool. It is very popular among the unemployed for this purpose. Many experts notice that social networking is increasingly used for professional and networking purposes these days.

If you are looking for a job, you should definitely use Facebook to help you. Setting up an account is free and simple. You only need an email address to get started. Then, you can create your profile. A profile for social purposes is much different than one for professional purposes. Many people post pictures and write things that might be fine among friends, but are inappropriate for job situations. Therefore, if you are thinking about employment, refrain from posting things that are controversial and inappropriate. Make sure that your profile photo is clean-cut. The Internet makes everything available for everyone. You would have more freedom if your profile is set to private, but since you are trying to attract hiring managers, your profile should be as public as possible. With this in mind, do not write or post anything that might embarrass you among professionals. Design your profile as if it were your resume. Brand your image and be clear and concise. Post only what you would want your employer to come across. Mention additional information in the designated areas. Include where you attended school, worked, and more. Treat it like a resume.

When your profile is ready, start expanding your network of contacts. If you are new to Facebook, you will soon notice that almost all your friends are already there. You can quickly insert the email addresses of your friends and Facebook will let you know who is already a member. Once you know, you can request that they become your friend. Since you will be able to see the contacts of your contacts, you can add more people to your network. Your network will multiply quickly with all the friends and acquaintances you add. You will also receive friend requests.

In order to let your friends know that you are looking for a job, you can use the status updates function. This will let everyone know what you are doing. You can change it as often as you like, but it is not a good idea to get obsessed with this feature. If you overuse it, people might stop tuning in and your updates may become petty. Use it to make smart announcements. Let others know that you are looking for a job in a clever way.

Always be careful about what you post and what your friends might post. Once they see the professionalism of your profile, they may refrain from adding questionable comments. Stay away from posting photos that are sexy or inappropriate and from making comments that are sexist, racist, or offensive in any way. Remember that you have a choice when it comes to accepting friends; therefore, refrain from friends that may interfere with the professional image you want to display.
